Jurgen Klopp is gearing up to welcome back Trent Alexander-Arnold into the Liverpool squad as they prepare to face Tottenham.
Alexander-Arnold had been absent from recent matches but has been training at Kirby, raising Klopp’s confidence that the attacking right-back will be available for the game.
However, there’s been an unfortunate setback for young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who was vying for playing time in the midfield.
Bajcetic has encountered a calf injury, and Klopp is taking a cautious approach to prevent a lengthy layoff for the Spanish midfielder. Additionally, Thiago remains unavailable for the upcoming match.
Jurgen Klopp welcomes Trent back and give an update on Liverpool squad
Klopp provided an update on the players‘ availability, saying,
“Trent trained yesterday normal, will train today normal. We have to make a decision. It looks like he will be in the squad and play. Stefan had a little, little setback. The problem with Stefan is I can imagine everyone wants to see him play more – I want (that too) – but we have to be really careful. And now it’s a little, little, little tiny calf issue. That’s how it is when you are six months out.
And we try everything to get him up to speed without pushing him. We make a very specific plan for him but in the end it’s disappointing for him, of course, but for us as well that he got another one. So we have to take him out a little bit. He can work on pretty much everything else but not playing. That’s it, I would say. Thiago still out, Conor (Bradley) still out. I think that’s it.”
Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning every game since their draw with Chelsea on the opening weekend.
They’ve notably secured an impressive away victory against Newcastle, keeping pace with the reigning champions, Manchester City.
Their upcoming fixture against Tottenham presents another significant challenge, with the North London team demonstrating their quality by twice coming from behind to earn a draw against Arsenal.
While the Merseysiders have a favorable record against Spurs, Klopp anticipates a tough test for his side.
The German remarked,
“Spurs is a tough test. We’ve not played an easy game yet, away at Newcastle, Chelsea really tough. All always have been tough. Spurs doing well, Ange seems a top bloke, looking forward to meeting him. I think (fans) were all desperate for offensive football, he’s doing it.”
Klopp on Dominik Szoboszlai
Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to return to Liverpool’s starting lineup after scoring a memorable goal in the Carabao Cup midweek. Klopp praised the Hungarian, saying,
“I am impressed, the boy is impressive, really smart, a good lad who is close with everyone,”
Klopp also highlighted Szoboszlai’s enthusiasm for joining the club, making it a positive environment for him to showcase his best football.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
