Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri could leave the Reds this summer to join the French club Olympique Lyonnais. The French club had made Shaqiri a top transfer target after the departure of Memphis Depay to Barcelona.

Moreover, Shaqiri had recently expressed his desire to play under a new challenge. Speaking about his future Shaqiri said

“I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me. I’m only 29 years old. I have played in some of the best Leagues in Europe and I would like to continue being a part of them.”

Apart from that he also talked about his career, which he believes there is a lot yet left in his tank. Thus, the Switzz international indicating his plans to spend more time on the field.

The 29-year-old midfielder has made only 45 Premier League appearances scoring 7 times for the Reds since his arrival in the club 3 years back.

Will Shaqiri depart this summer?

According to the reports from Sky Sports, Lyon is yet to match the valuation set by Liverpool for their star midfielder. The French club is looking to offer just over €6m for Xherdan Shaqiri. While Liverpool are looking for a bid somewhere around €8m for the 29-year-old.

Xherdan Shaqiri still has one year left to run out of his contract with Liverpool. However, as the margin of negotiation is quite less it is possible that Shaqiri might be departing from Anfield this summer.

Moreover, the Ligue 1 side Lyon looks very impressed with Shaqiri’s performance in the Swizz colours in the Euro 2020. Thus, the former Premier League champions are also eager to get some cash inflows in order to bring some fresh legs in their current squad before the transfer window closes.
