Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Dutch international and Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in the summer, along with Arne Slot’s appointment.

Amid the managerial saga that is currently going on at Anfield, the Reds are poised to make some crucial signings this summer.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot‘s Merseyside takeover is almost finalised and confirmed, so the club can now focus on strengthening the team ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Last summer saw the English giants go through one of the biggest midfield rebuilds in the club’s history in which they signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

The decision most certainly paid off as the newly-formed midfield outshined the previous underperforming midfield comprising Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and several others.

Even though the defensive-midfield signing Wataru Endo has performed exceptionally well in the Reds outfit despite initial doubts, his age is still concerning some pundits and they do not see him as a long-term solution.

So the club has the duty to sign another young alternative to the Japanese skipper.

Liverpool To Sign Atalanta Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners

LFC have identified Dutchman Koopmeiners as the ideal candidate for the job. According to Italian media outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Merseyside giants are ‘above all’ to sign the midfielder.

Although Juventus are really keen on signing the Netherlands international, his asking price of £51.1M (€60M) set by Atalanta and the expected competition from several PL clubs specifically the Reds is ‘frightening’ for the Bianconeri.

The 26-year-old has already made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side and has netted 14 goals and assisted five times (stats via WhoScored).

Notably, Koopmeiners also featured in the two legs of the Europa League quarter-final against the Merseysiders where La Dea knocked the English giants out of the competition.

The potential joining of Dutch tactician Arne Slot this summer at Anfield paired with the chance of playing alongside his national teammates Van Dijk, Gakpo and Gravenberch would make Liverpool a really attractive prospect for Koopmeiners.

The coming days would unfold how this saga pans out for LFC. But his addition would definitely benefit the Reds in aiming for higher standards.
