In his first start at Anfield against Leicester City in the EFL Cup, Ben Doak made a notable impact on the game. His performance left many feeling that he was unjustly denied a penalty.
Doak against Leicester
The young Scottish player made a determined run into the opposition’s penalty area, and during the match, it appeared that he was tripped by James Justin.
Upon reviewing new camera angles, this belief was reinforced. It seemed that the standing foot of the 17-year-old was swept from under him.
What’s surprising is that despite these observations, no penalty was awarded to Liverpool. The absence of VAR meant there was no opportunity to take a second look at the incident.
Nonetheless, Ben Doak will have more chances to impress Liverpool supporters in the future. It feels like his first senior goal is just around the corner.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
