Liverpool’s assistant manager, Pep Lijnders, has expressed admiration for Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s impressive return to training after being sidelined for nearly a month due to a hamstring injury sustained in a Premier League match against Aston Villa.
The right-back is working diligently to regain fitness ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Leicester.
Pep Lijnders on Trent injury
Lijnders, stepping in for manager Jurgen Klopp during the pre-game Carabao Cup media obligations, revealed that a final decision hasn’t been made regarding Alexander-Arnold’s participation in the third-round fixture at Anfield.
He told the club website:
“Trent trained yesterday with us,
But it was just in the rondo and the ball possession with the counter-pressing, but he was outstanding. You see him instantly, of course.
He is with the team training, I am not sure if he will be ready, we will see today.
But then if we speak about Trent we have to make a compliment to Joe Gomez because the way he played the role, played the role in his way but still being able to come inside as well, was just incredible.
His level and attitude, just a big compliment to him because you are replacing one of the best full-backs in the world. He did really, really well. That’s good and shows a lot about our squad as well, that we can have that.”
Lijnders also took the opportunity to commend Joe Gomez for his role in Alexander-Arnold’s absence.
Gomez adapted well to the right-back position, showcasing his versatility by not only fulfilling the role but also contributing effectively when moving inside.
Lijnders praised Gomez’s performance and attitude, highlighting how he stepped in admirably for one of the world’s best full-backs.
This situation underscores the depth and quality of Liverpool’s squad, demonstrating their ability to cope with key players’ absences.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
