Chris Wilder praised Liverpool and the Anfield crowd for their overall dominance and making it very difficult for any Premier League club to come and play there.
Chris Wilder Acknowledges Liverpool Dominance
Chris Wilder had little complaints about Sheffield United’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
The Blades boss acknowledged there was no shame in losing to a side of the Reds’ calibre, especially on their home turf.
Wilder praised Liverpool’s sheer physical prowess, highlighting the impact of players like Andrew Robertson as a real challenge for his team to cope with.
Difference in Class Between Two Teams Acknowledged by the Sheffield United Boss
Wilder lamented the gulf in class between the two sides, admitting the physical demands of the Premier League have taken an incredible step forward.
He pointed to his players struggling to keep up with Liverpool’s intensity, cramping up late on as the hosts pulled away.
He said that,
“Robertson coming on the pitch, the power and the pace of the Premier League, that’s been our Achilles heel all season.
And yet again Liverpool are finding goals late on and we’re struggling to hang on in there; recovery runs late on, you’ve seen our players cramping up and struggling to get back on.”
Acknowledging the Reds’ ability to absolutely dismantle opponents at Anfield, Wilder said his team understood the difficulty of the task they faced.
World-Class Performance by the World Cup Winner at Anfield
Despite his side’s best efforts, the Sheffield United manager was disappointed they couldn’t bridge the gap to the Premier League‘s elite.
Wilder said the physical shortcomings that have plagued the Blades all season ultimately cost them again, with the ‘world-class’ Alexis Mac Allister strike sealing their fate.
Though defeated, the visitors had left everything out on the pitch against a formidable Liverpool juggernaut.
