Liverpool icon Roberto Firmino has claimed in his book that manager Jurgen Klopp was ignoring him last season prior to his departure from Anfield.
The Merseysiders have had many great attacking players throughout their history. But in recent times, the most frightening attacking line has been the Salah-Mane-Firmino trio.
The trio managed to break and create several records both individually and together. Even though Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been better statistically, a lot of their success can be attributed to Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian forward sacrificed chances of increasing his own tally for the team’s needs. During his time at Anfield, he played a deeper false 9 role to support Klopp’s style of play. And this had rightfully paid off for the club.
Also, he has earned the status of club legend for his contributions to the team. But a recent report can raise an eyebrow or two.
Jurgen Klopp ignored Roberto Firmino in his last days at Liverpool
The Brazilian international left LFC this summer after an emotional Fairweather with teary eyes. And he joined Saudi club Al-Ahli on a free transfer.
However, in his new book ‘Si Senor: My Liverpool Years,’ Bobby has claimed that his last days at the club were rather sad. As collated by The Athletic this morning, the 32-year-old says that he took the decision to leave before the club took it for him.
He also felt ‘muddled’ by ‘slow’ contract talks and as the book states,
“The boss was avoiding me.”
Firmino also claimed that Klopp was unable to explain why he was getting less playtime in his last season. However, it is not completely the German’s fault.
The Reds boss must have been informed by the higher authorities that the Brazilian will not be signed any further. So this should have resulted in Klopp giving cold shoulder to Firmino.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
