Liverpool completed their second signing of the season with Dominik Szoboszlai and now they move closer to signing Romeo Lavia.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his Twitter that the Reds have succeeded to sign Dominik Szoboszlai as their second signing of the season.
The Merseysiders triggered the £60M release clause in his contract to bring him to Anfield from RB Leipzig.
Romeo Lavia to Liverpool soon after Szoboszlai
Liverpool confirmed the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton earlier in June. The club exercised the Argentine’s release clause of £35M and signed the World Cup winner.
There is already some chatter about players like Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone, Ryan Gravenberch, and others as potential midfield transfers. But the player whose name has been in the news recently is Romeo Lavia.
The Belgian international is a conventional defensive midfielder or a no. 6. He can be a perfect signing for the Reds and complement and compensate defensively for Mac Allister and Szoboszlai. The Anfield Giants lack talent and depth in the no. 6 position.
Although Fabinho has been serving that position for the past few years, he looked a little stale last season. Jordan Henderson and Stefan Bajcetic have covered that position on a few occasions. But the club captain is getting old and losing the spark that he used to.
Also, Bajcetic is a young player who has handled the responsibility of a no. 6 but he is not very physical. But the good thing is he is just 19 and has room to improve physically.
Whereas Lavia despite being 19-year-old is physically more developed than the Spaniard. He has certainly more experience than Bajcetic.
The defensive midfielder managed to put 2.27 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game across all competitions. He appeared in 33 games for the Southampton senior team scored 1 goal and assisted 1.
But saying that, it is safe to say that the Belgian midfielder would not get a place in the first team immediately after signing. He would have to earn his place with some serious performances.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
