Liverpool are in talks to sign Bundesliga star Dominic Szoboszlai. His former coach tells that he is as good as Erling Haaland.
David Ornstein of The Athletic has claimed that the Reds met with Szoboszlai’s agents this week to discuss a potential summer transfer.
As per the report, the Hungarian midfielder has a £60M release clause in his contract with RB Leipzig.
However, Liverpool have already started to explore the possibility of signing the attacking midfielder. But there is also “an acceptance within the club” that it will be “very difficult to get a deal done”.
And the potential deal will be further complicated as the Hungary international’s release clause will expire on June 30, reported by Sky Germany.
Dominic Szoboszlai to join Liverpool?
The 22-year-old has attracted interest of many Premier League clubs after having a terrific season at Leipzig. Szoboszlai scored 10 goals and assisted 13 appearing in 46 games across all competitions in the 2022-23 season.
Former Leipzig and Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch indicated that Szoboszlai was as talented as Erling Haaland. Moreover, in an interview for Bundesliga three weeks ago, Marsch stated,
“As talent goes, there aren’t many better players that can play his position.
Some are strong, some are technical, some are good tactically, and some can defend well or run a lot.
However, Dominik is special because he has all of these skills combined. Dominik is just as talented as Erling Haaland.”
Meanwhile back in January current Leipzig manager Marco Rose said,
“Now we’re seeing the real Szoboszlai. He’s an unbelievably ambitious player, who wants to win.
His shooting is exceptional, especially from range. I hope he can continue this way.”
The Reds have already begun their work in the transfer market to bolster their midfield. Although they have completed one signing, they are constantly working towards more signings as they will go all out in this transfer window.
Given that the club lands the Szoboszlai deal, Klopp would have to rethink his team and formation. With two attacking midfielders in hand, he might have to shift to a more attacking formation like 4-1-2-3 rather than just using 4-3-3 flat.
However, the deal is yet to come to reality. Liverpool needs new and young midfield signings and Szoboszlai quite fits the job description Liverpool are looking for.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
