Alexis Mac Allister sustained a knee injury during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Sheffield United on Wednesday, resulting in the need for stitches.
Despite not being immediately substituted, the 24-year-old midfielder left the match early. Manager Jurgen Klopp expressed concern about the severity of the injury, stating that it “doesn’t look good” and casting doubt on Mac Allister’s availability for Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace, which will be broadcast on TNT Sports.
Klopp mentioned that the injury occurred as a cut to the knee, and though initial hopes were optimistic, the manager does not anticipate Mac Allister being ready for the upcoming game.
The situation is described as “stop and go,” with the manager unsure about the player’s availability for subsequent matches, including the crucial fixture against Manchester United on the following Sunday.
Injury update on Mac Allister and other Liverpool players
Liverpool are set to play in the UEFA Europa League against Union Saint-Gilloise next Thursday, but Klopp suggested that Mac Allister might not be risked if there are doubts about his fitness.
On a positive note, Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson is on the road to recovery from a hamstring problem, but his availability for Saturday is still uncertain pending further evaluation.
Unfortunately, Liverpool will be without defender Joel Matip, who suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Klopp expressed confidence that the club would extend Matip’s contract, which expires in the summer, acknowledging the player’s contributions and stating that the decision is not solely within his control.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
