Reports from 90min suggest that Liverpool are interested in acquiring Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah during the January transfer window.
This interest stems from the long-term injury of Joel Matip, who is unlikely to play again this season due to an ACL rupture.
Liverpool are reportedly in need of a replacement and has identified the 6ft 5in German defender as a potential option.
Despite Tah being under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2025, there is a belief within Liverpool that a deal for the 27-year-old could be negotiated in January.
The report from 90min suggests that Liverpool believes Tah could seamlessly fit into their squad when needed.
Another Premier League Club interested in signing Jonathan Tah
Chelsea have also been linked with Tah, and West Ham United reportedly had the opportunity to sign him during the summer of 2023.
However, the author of the piece expresses scepticism about Liverpool’s chances of securing Tah’s services in the January transfer window.
The Bundesliga club, currently leading the league with 35 points from 13 matches, may be reluctant to sell Tah midway through the season, especially given their title aspirations.
The author notes that while money could be a factor, the prospect of Bayer Leverkusen potentially winning the Bundesliga title under manager Xabi Alonso may deter them from parting ways with Tah in January.
Tah has been in good form, scoring three goals in 12 Bundesliga matches this season and one goal in 33 Bundesliga games in the previous campaign.
