Despite reports of Bruno Guimaraes signing a new contract with Newcastle United, Liverpool are reportedly maintaining their interest in the player.
Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, played a pivotal role in helping the club secure an 11th-place finish in the Premier League after initially joining during a relegation battle.
According to information from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano in The Daily Briefing, the Reds are still keen on securing Guimaraes, even though they were unsuccessful in their pursuit of him during the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy continue to hold the Brazilian midfielder in high regard.
Liverpool’s midfield underwent significant changes ahead of the 2023-24 season, with the departures of players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League.
The club made several notable midfield signings, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch.
Bruno Guimaraes on the verge of signing a new contract
While Liverpool appears satisfied with their new midfield additions, they have not abandoned their interest in Guimaraes.
However, Guimaraes is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Newcastle United, committing his future to the club until 2028.
This new agreement is expected to significantly increase his earnings compared to his current deal.
The reported contract will include a release clause of around £100 million, providing potential suitors like Liverpool with a potential pathway to secure Guimaraes in the future.
The inclusion of this buy-out clause was said to be a non-negotiable aspect for the player, who is reportedly content with his progress at Newcastle since his arrival.
Guimaraes recently scored a goal in Newcastle’s dominant 8-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League.
The team is now preparing to face Manchester City in the EFL Cup, and Guimaraes remains a key figure in Eddie Howe’s squad.
