Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson suggests that the club should sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Brighton striker Evan Ferguson next summer.
The Anfield giants had a great transfer window this summer as they completed the midfield rebuild. Although they are sorted in the central and attacking midfield position, the defensive-midfield position still needs fixing.
Even though the club signed Wataru Endo for the number six role, he does not live up to the mark. While Ryan Gravenberch is only 21 years old and lacks experience. Thus, the Reds need a permanent fix for the position of concern.
The Merseysiders submitted a £100M offer for Bruno Guimaraes to Newcastle United towards the end of the transfer window. However, the Magpies rejected the bid saying that Brazilian was not for sale in no uncertain terms.
Glen Johnson says Liverpool should buy Bruno Guimaraes and Evan Ferguson
Speaking to GG Games, former Reds defender Glen Johnson said about Guimaraes,
“Absolutely [Liverpool should target Guimaraes], I really like him.
He’s been a key player for Newcastle United and he’s got an awful lot about him, so I can understand why Liverpool would want to sign him because he’s proven himself already at this level.
I think all parties would be happy if Liverpool could sign him for £100 million.”
However, he had a very bold take on Evan Ferguson. He claimed that the Anfield outfit should sign the Brighton striker in 2024 saying,
“They should at least try, for sure. He’s a young kid that’s burst on the scene and is scoring goals in the Premier League, which is obviously a very tough thing to do.
Evan will have a better chance at getting into either Chelsea or Liverpool’s team than he would Manchester City’s if he decided to make the move there.
I believe Chelsea and Liverpool will have their eyes on Evan already because young goalscorers in the Premier League don’t come around that often.
You can completely understand why the big guns will have their eyes on him.”
LFC definitely needs a good defensive midfielder for the long-term fix. Guimaraes is a good fit for that position.
However, Evan Ferguson’s opinion is a little bit more exaggerated and is not needed at this moment.
