Liverpool are said to be targeting the Turkish midfielder, Orkun Kokcu from Feyenoord this summer as a part of their midfield revamp.
After reportedly signing the Argentine, Mac Allister, Liverpool have set sights on a number of other midfielders. The 22-year-old Feyenoord captain is said to be one of them.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the versatile Turkey international. As per Dutch outlet 1908, Liverpool are in the mix to sign the player.
However, the Premier League club aren’t the only one interested in the young captain. Benfica are also said to be interested in the player’s services.
Moreover, the Portuguese giants are said to be in ‘pole position’ to land the 22-year-old. They are ready to pay the £34m fee to bring him to Lisbon. This would be a record figure for Feyenoord in terms of a player sale.
Liverpool look for a Turkish delight in Kokcu
Kokcu is an interesting name for the North West giants which has been thrown around a few times this transfer window. However, it does make sense as the transfer might benefit both parties.
The young, yet experienced midfielder is one of the few players who is captaining his club at the mere age of 22. He led his team to the title and is named the Footballer of the Year for his performances this season.
The price tag is also an interesting one as he is relatively cheaper than other players with such leadership qualities and technicality and versatility. At around £34m, the Turk is definitely a bargain for what he has achieved so far.
However, the Reds are also targeting other midfielders who happen to be 22-year-olds. The likes of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram are high on the priority list for the Reds. While the French duo are high on technicality skills, what they lack would be leadership skills.
Also, reports have suggested that Mount is yet to decide his destination between Liverpool and Man Utd. But his asking price is said to be an excess of £80m which is high considering his recent form.
In the current Liverpool squad, the 32-year-old Henderson has been instrumental with his leadership skills. Apart from him, there isn’t much to shout about. Hence, a leading figure in the middle of the park and in the dressing room would boost the squad morale.
Given the fee for the player, Liverpool should not back out and beat Benfica to sign the midfielder.
