The Turkish midfielder who is the captain of Feyenoord, Orkun Kokcu could be the player in line to replace the current Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.
Liverpool are set for a transformative summer following a disappointing campaign this season. There have been talks about Mac Allister from Brighton to Liverpool, being a done deal. Moreover, the Reds are targeting a young and dynamic French midfield duo in Kone and Thuram.
However, there has been a recent update on the club’s potential targets, in the form of the Turkish 22-year-old midfielder, Kokcu.
New midfield target for Liverpool: Orkun Kokcu
As per Football Transfers, the Feyenoord captain Orkun Kocku remains high on the agenda in Liverpool’s midfield rebuild this summer. Also, Kokcu has been deemed to be Liverpool’s top transfer priority along with Kone and Thuram.
As per the report, it is claimed that Jurgen Klopp and the club’s new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke will be relied upon to work on a deal to secure the signature of the talented midfielder. Moreover, they would also be aiming to bring in Kephren Thuram and Manu Kone too.
While the transfer target does make sense, there should also be an answer to whom the 22-year-old would replace. The plausible answer would be the 32-year-old Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.
Despite being only 22 years old, the Turkish sensation has already demonstrated his clear ability to lead his team. He led his team to a monumental Eredivisie title win this season. Moreover, this is only the second time in a century that the Dutch club have earned the accolade.
The midfielder has been hailed a ‘true leader’ by scout Jacek Kulig. Kokcu has 8 goals and 2 assists in 32 league appearances for Feyenoord. He also has created 9 big chances and has averaged 91.8 touches while having 2.8 key passes. Also, he averages one shot on target every game which proves his all-round presence as well.
As such, he would likely be best suited to playing in a box-to-box role for maximum impact. He would provide more energy and would inject much-needed youth into the team.
Feyenoord will reportedly command a transfer fee of just €40m, which could be a bargain price for Liverpool. Also, while considering the tight budgets of FSG, there could be no complaints about the price, considering the player’s quality.
Kocku could be a huge signing for the Reds and could be a future captain as well.
