As per reports, Liverpool are still in the race and are head-to-head in competition with Man Utd over Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount.
Mount has been in the Liverpool target list for some time now. Also, he was reported to have chosen Man Utd over their rivals. However, as per journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Reds still stand a chance to sign the Englishman.
Plettenberg reported that Liverpool are actually still in the hunt for Mount. It’s simply now down to the player himself to decide which North West giant he joins. However, United does still look to be the new favourites, though.
Mount to choose between Liverpool and Man Utd: Reports
The Reds’ fans were convinced that the 24-year-old had chosen Man Utd over Liverpool. But now with the news coming out that Mount is yet to decide between the two North West giants, nothing can be said for sure.
The only sticking point that appeared to remain is the fee. Chelsea are reportedly looking for as much as £85m to sell the player, who has one year left on his contract. Understandably, any potential buying clubs are demanding that the asking price be lowered, significantly.
A fee more in line with the one Plettenberg is reporting would feel more appropriate. Should that be the eventual price Mount is sold for, we can understand why Liverpool were so interested in the first place.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t seem like the 24-year-old is as interested in the Reds as they are in him. With the Old Trafford side offering UCL games next season, he might want to join Ten Haag.
There are no surprises that he would reach his peak under Klopp as was the case with Coutinho, Mane, Salah, and more.
It is quite the opposite situation as the likes of Mane, Nunez, and Gakpo chose Liverpool over Man Utd. Moreover, the German tactician is said to have chosen Liverpool over the Red Devils.
Nevertheless, the Reds won’t be too perturbed. They look poised to move ahead with other targets. If Mount makes an unexpected U-turn, maybe Liverpool will put those other moves on hold. But we don’t see it happening.
