Jurgen Klopp shared updates on the injury status of key Liverpool players ahead of their match against Sheffield United.
Unfortunately, the team will be without six players, including Andy Robertson, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, and now Joel Matip, who sustained a knee injury in the recent win against Fulham.
Klopp gives positive injury news on Liverpool forward
On a more positive note, Klopp revealed that Diogo Jota is making progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, having resumed running outdoors. However, his return to team training is not confirmed yet.
“He was running yesterday outside, on his birthday.
Everything goes in the right direction, but nobody told me he would be back in team training today. There’s still some time.”
Said Klopp.
Regarding goalkeeper Alisson, Klopp mentioned that he is getting closer to a return but won’t be available for the Sheffield United game.
There is optimism that Alisson might be back for the match against Manchester United on December 17.
“Obviously Ali is closer, but not available for tomorrow, definitely. I don’t know it exactly, but it doesn’t look good, that’s something we can say.
The scan is not done yet, so we don’t know exactly. It’s not great. From the first second it was clear, I spoke to him and he said ‘no’, that’s not good. But how long, I don’t know.”
Concerning Joel Matip, Klopp expressed worry about the situation as the defender is yet to undergo a scan due to persistent swelling around his knee. The severity and timeframe of Matip’s injury remain uncertain.
Despite these challenges, Klopp emphasized the need to take one game at a time and acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming fixtures, especially with the loss of Joel Matip.
Ibrahima Konate is likely to step in for Matip in the Sheffield United game, and Klopp urged the team to focus on the immediate task at hand.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
