Liverpool are facing concerns over injury to key players following their draw against Manchester City.
Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s goal, manager Jurgen Klopp is troubled by injuries to goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Diogo Jota.
Liverpool injury list
Alisson Becker
Alisson suffered a hamstring injury in the closing moments of the game, and the severity is yet to be confirmed as scan results are awaited. Klopp expressed hope that it was not a serious injury but emphasized the need to wait for the scan results.
“I hope it’s not that serious, but I don’t have the answer – no clue in the moment what it is. I spoke to him and he said he only felt [it] a little bit, but we have to wait for the scan.”
Said Klopp
Diogo Jota
Diogo Jota, who had a quiet game, left the field after 54 minutes with a muscle issue. Klopp stated that they need to assess the injuries to Alisson and Jota before determining the extent of their absence.
“The shadow on this game is obviously that Ali felt something and Diogo felt something – something we have to assess and then we will see. Unfortunately we’ve lost Diogo with a muscle [issue].”
Said Klopp.
Andy Robertson
In addition to these concerns, left-back Andrew Robertson, recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during international duty, is expected to be out until the New Year. Robertson’s surgery was successful, and he is gradually progressing in his recovery.
Thiago
Thiago Alcantara, an influential midfielder for Liverpool, has been grappling with ongoing hip troubles and is unlikely to return to the pitch until the start of the New Year, according to Klopp.
The manager expressed eagerness to have Thiago back but emphasized the need for patience in his recovery.
“Thiago is an ongoing thing. We cannot put any pressure in there as well. But we expect him to be back, I would probably say start of the New Year.
It’s now already November. That would mean another four weeks, I would say that is probably realistic thing to try. I can’t wait to have him back. The player is just exceptional.
I understand why you ask but we can’t have a week by week update because it will not change a lot in this moment.”
Said Klopp.
Stefan Bajcetic
Stefan Bajcetic, the academy graduate midfielder, had a breakout season in 2022/23 but suffered an adductor injury in March. His return date remains uncertain, with Klopp unsure when he will be available for selection.
To sum up, Liverpool faces a challenging period with uncertainties surrounding the return dates of key players, including Alisson, Jota, Robertson, Thiago, and Bajcetic.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
