Liverpool are set to pay €40 million for the World Cup winner, Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid this summer, as Klopp could finally get his player.
During the 2020/21 season, the Argentine attracted interest from a number of clubs for his performance, including Liverpool. However, De Paul moved to the Spanish outfit in a deal worth €35m from Udinese.
According to reports, Jurgen Klopp had made efforts to sign the midfielder in the summer of 2021. Although the 28-year-old is playing in only his second season in La Liga, he has caught the attention of many elite clubs.
Moreover, with his recent success in the World Cup, his admiration has only gone up. And if reports from Fichajes.net are to be believed, the Reds could sign the midfielder this summer from Atletico.
The World Cup winner with Argentina hasn’t managed to impress regularly for the Madrid club. Thus, it has seen him being restricted to 17 starts in all competitions this season.
However, this hasn’t let Klopp rule him out of his target list. Moreover, the club is ready to shell out €40m to sign the South American.
If all reports are to be believed, Simeone’s men would receive approximately the same amount they spent on De Paul, 2 years ago.
Rodrigo De Paul: The latest one to enter the midfield wishlist for Liverpool
There’s no denying that Liverpool needs to bolster their midfield ahead of next season. Moreover, it seems Klopp could be given another chance to try to sign his old target this summer.
With many midfield targets, including Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount, De Paul could offer a cheaper alternative for Klopp.
The player has been an important part of the midfield for Argentina at the World Cup and went on to win it as well. However, De Paul has not replicated the same form for his club this season and has been left out of the regular XI more often than not.
It is now to be seen whether Klopp would sign his old target and bolster his midfield for the next season.
