Liverpool have indicated they are willing to meet the midfielder’s wage demands after holding ‘productive’ talks with Mason Mount.
The 24-year-old is close to leaving his boyhood club after rejecting a new deal with the club. His current contract runs till 2024 and Chelsea aren’t willing to let the midfielder run down his contract.
They are open to selling the England international if an agreement is struck over this summer. Mount rejected a new deal offered by Chelsea which was reported to be less than his £200,000-a-week salary demands.
Mount’s situation with the Blues has definitely garnered attention from a few PL clubs including Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, and Newcastle.
However, Liverpool looks to be at the forefront of things as it has been reported that the Reds have held ‘positive’ talks with the player’s agent.
Jurgen Klopp looks at the Englishman as a perfect midfield acquisition for his midfield revamps for the next season. Although the midfielder has been linked to a move to Anfield for a long time now, other clubs are still said to be in the race for Mount.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have already held initial talks with Mount’s representatives. Also, according to Goal, the negotiations were ‘productive’, with a willingness on both sides to come to an agreement.
It’s claimed the Reds have agreed to meet Mount’s wage demands, which gives them the upper hand in this transfer saga.
Mount could be a perfect signing for Liverpool
The 24-year-old might start for the Blues when they take on Liverpool tonight as he is back from injury. It might be the case as managerless Chelsea looks to move on from the sacking of Graham Potter, yesterday.
This could give Klopp a closer glimpse of what the Englishman is capable of in the midfield. Besides, the Portsmouth-born player has proven to be a huge asset to the Blues already.
The dynamic midfielder burst into the scene when Lampard was incharge of the London club. He went on to win the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, even providing an assist in the final.
The former Derby County player even won the Chelsea Player of the Year, twice in a row in 2021 and 2022. The midfielder has played 192 games for Chelsea, scoring 33 goals and assisting 37 times.
He has also won a CL trophy, UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup with his boyhood club. Now, it would be interesting to see where the midfielder would end up in the next season.
