Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexis MacAllister. The Reds recently abandoned a move to sign Jude Bellingham and are now considering other options.
The Argentine’s value has increased after the midfielder won the World Cup with Argentina and thereafter, has excelled for Brighton this season.
What Fabrizio Romano claims?
Currently, it appears that Liverpool’s pursuit of the 24-year-old is going well.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated that the Reds are optimistic about getting Mac Allister.
Romano:
“I can tell you that Liverpool feel they are making progress in the negotiation to sign Alexis Mac Allister. They presented their project to the player side so Liverpool had direct meeting to present their project to Alexis Mac Allister.
They are going to push on the player side and then they feel that they can close the deal with Brighton. So the point is the player.”
Romano also asserted that two of Liverpool’s rivals in the competition for the Argentine currently appear to be falling behind.
According to reports, Mac Allister is not a priority for Chelsea, while Manchester United are unable to complete the transaction due to the club selling circumstances.
“Liverpool want to take advantage of that. And they presented their project to Mac Allister.
So they want to get the deal done for Alexis Mac Allister, let’s see how the negotiation will continue in the next weeks.”
The Scousers are trying to overhaul their midfield options
Liverpool’s midfield needs a full makeover this summer due to contract expirations and aging legs. In light of this, it makes sense why Liverpool would want to invest around £120 million in two or three players.
By no means would Jurgen Klopp’s Reds make a poor choice in Mac Allister. He has a lot of Premier League experience and is certainly capable of making an impression at the highest level.
And at only 24 years old, he is still a young man who is only now beginning to approach his prime. Mac Allister was instrumental in Argentina’s first World Cup victory since 1986.
Thus, if the Merseysiders can get this deal done it will be a huge addition to the current squad.
