Liverpool football club may be on the verge of signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mac Allister has been identified as a target for Liverpool’s midfield rebuild, and Romano reported in April that talks between Liverpool and the Brighton player was set to commence ‘very soon.’
The journalist has now hinted on Twitter that there may be an update on the player to watch out for today. Romano has reported that Mac Allister is expecting Brighton to grant his wish of a transfer this summer.
Mac Allister to Liverpool: Sign of Relief for Klopp?
Mac Allister could be a good signing for Liverpool, with the Argentine having had an ‘unbelievable’ season. It would resemble a retro type of signing for the Reds. Recruiting players from lower in the Premier League has been the foundation of our recent success. Okay, so Brighton might beat Liverpool to the title this year, but you get the idea.
Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and perhaps most notably of all – Gini Wijnaldum were signed in a similar fashion. Gini is notable because we have a hunch that Mac Allister could well be the eventual replacement for the Dutchman. The Argentine could be the road-running ball-keeper that Liverpool have been crying out for.
As they are ready to “bolster their midfield in the summer with key signings,” Liverpool has the Brighton midfielder “high on the list of targets,” according to Paul Joyce in The Times.
Joyce’s comment regarding Mac Allister came during the update on Thiago, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a recurring hip ailment and needs minor surgery. It served as a timely reminder that the Reds’ midfield has problems and that the window needs to be used to address both player aging and injury issues.
Romano stated that Liverpool is set to have a meeting with the player’s camp, which is his family, and they will also chat with Jurgen Klopp about his ideas going forward with Mac Allister.
Liverpool are very keen to improve their midfield in the summer transfer window, and it sounds as though the £70m player is one they’re very keen to add to their squad.
Mac Allister’s family speaking to Liverpool is a sign that the player may well be open to signing, and once you’ve had the sweet talk from Jurgen Klopp, it’s hard to turn him down.
