‘Am I letting everybody down’: Liverpool told £140k-a-week star feeling ‘bad’ about leaving

Former Liverpool man and Pundit Steve Nicol thinks Jordan Henderson might be feeling ‘bad’ about leaving Anfield and potentially moving to Saudi Arabia.

The Merseysiders finished 5th on the PL table last season and somehow managed to qualify for the Europa League.

This clearly showed how bad the condition of the team’s midfield was. And to correct the mistakes of the previous season, the club has started taking actions towards improving the midfield.

The Reds saw players like James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave the club. This provided the necessary funds to sign new players such as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

But recent reports raised concerns regarding Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leaving the club.

Both the players have been linked with transfers to Saudi Arabia and it could affect the Anfield giants massively. Their experience and leadership could become a crucial point that the Reds could miss.

Hendo is all set to join Steve G

Recent reports suggest that Henderson could probably get a move to Al-Ettifaq which is currently being managed by his former colleague and Anfield legend Steven Gerrard.

The Saudi club could potentially get him on board for a salary of rumoured £700K per week.

As per the latest reports, the deal is almost done. Henderson will complete the medical in Croatia at Al-Ettifaq’s camp if the deal is agreed between the two clubs.

Steve Nicol assumes the situation of Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson

While talking on ESPN, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol said the English midfielder might be ‘tossing and turning’ and questioning if he is ‘letting everybody down’ by leaving Anfield. He elaborated further,

“If this is up to Jordan Henderson, then a 33-year-old, being offered the kind of money that they are offering, then absolutely you would go.

It is a big blow (to lose him). We are talking about somebody who was, not only key on the field, but key off the field as well. So, for Liverpool, it’s a dilemma.

I don’t know this guy personally, but from everything I have been told about him, he is probably going to feel as bad for Liverpool as Liverpool would if he decided that he wanted to go.

As much as I think, at 33, you take the money. 100%. I think he will be tossing and turning thinking ‘Am I letting Liverpool down? Am I letting everybody down?’ Because I think this is the way this guy is.

I don’t think he is your normal footballer. He’s kind of an old school in a new era. You feel the loyalty.”

This decision could also cost him his international career. Although he is not a starter for the England national team, he is still a crucial part of the team.

If he stays at Liverpool there is still a chance that Gareth Southgate might give him a ticket to Euro 2024 in Germany.

But if this deal goes through, then his chances of him playing for the Three Lions will get slimmer and thinner. While losing the experienced leader could cost Liverpool a lot in the near future.
