Liverpool are facing a critical period with potential sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson looming, as reported by reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The team’s disappointing fifth-place finish in the 2022/23 season has sparked a midfield revolution led by Jurgen Klopp.
New signings
Several departures from the midfield lineup, including James Milner, Naby Keita, Arthur Melo, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, have already occurred, while new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have joined the squad.
Fabinho and Henderson on the way to leave
However, Liverpool are not done yet and are in talks to offload two experienced stars to bolster their financial position.
Fabinho’s transfer to Saudi side All-Ittihad is reportedly close to completion. The Brazilian midfielder has agreed to the move, and negotiations between Liverpool and Al-Ittihad are underway.
The potential £40m fee for Fabinho would provide much-needed funds for Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.
Likewise, Jordan Henderson is nearing an exit from Anfield, with Al Ettifaq showing interest in the Liverpool captain.
However, the club has put a £10m price tag on the 33-year-old, complicating the move, but Romano believes a deal is possible. Romano reported on his YouTube channel:
“So, Al-Ittihad are getting closer to Fabinho, while Al Ettifaq are getting closer to Henderson. They now have to decide how to proceed in terms of the fee for Jordan Henderson, because they wanted the player for free.
But Liverpool that is impossible for Liverpool to let him go for free. But he has already agreed a three-year deal with Al Ettifaq, so it now depends on Liverpool.”
The potential sales of Fabinho and Henderson would give Klopp an unexpected £50m transfer windfall, allowing him to pursue a new No. 6 midfielder.
Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is one target, and the club may also attempt to outbid Manchester United for a Serie A star. Romano has suggested :
“So, it will now be a crucial week for outgoings for Liverpool. In any case – and it doesn’t depend on Henderson and Fabinho – Liverpool will sign at least one more midfielder.”
Replacements
The absence of Fabinho from Liverpool’s Germany training camp indicates a likely agreement with Al-Ittihad, while Henderson continues his preparations with the team.
Nonetheless, the Reds face challenges in finding replacements, as Moises Caicedo appears all set to join Chelsea, and Real Madrid’s Aurelian Tchouameni is considered difficult to acquire.
Liverpool’s training camp has been dominated by transfer speculation, with the focus shifting to player departures for the first time this summer.
As the team prepares for the upcoming friendlies, Klopp is striving to secure a strong midfield for the season ahead.
Liverpool are on the brink of significant changes in their midfield, with Fabinho and Henderson’s potential sales providing financial opportunities for new signings.
Klopp’s tactical overhaul will be closely watched in the coming weeks as the Reds aim to regain their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
