BeIN Sports presenter Richard Keys has claimed that he knows Liverpool will appoint Xabi Alonso as their next manager if Jurgen Klopp chooses to quit the club.
The Anfield giants are cruising in good form right now after having a not-so-good last season.
But Klopp and Co. have found their rhythm back as they currently stand 2nd in the PL after 15 matches with 34 points.
They are trailing behind Arsenal by 2 points who are first in the points table with 36 points after having played 15 games.
Although the Merseyside players have given their 100% on the pitch, this success would not have been possible without the mastermind of Jurgen Klopp.
The German has taken the PL by storm since he arrived back in 2015. Moreover, he incorporated a completely new philosophy into the team without changing the core values of the club.
However, last season’s poor performances led to questions about his potential sacking. But he has answered all the doubters with the elite level of performance this season.
Richard Keys considers Xabi Alonso as a PL grade manager
While the chatters of replacing Klopp were rising, a name that frequently surfaced was of former Red Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard has been on LFC‘s mind also as a potential replacement.
However, former BBC presenter Richard Keys has claimed that Alonso could also take over the reins at Manchester United. Taking to his blog richardajkeys.com, he wrote,
“I’d go and get Xavi Alonso. I’d offer him Saudi league money and guarantee him five years in charge. He’s about the only way Utd will ever re-join the elite group and he’d give them a chance of attracting big names to the club again – not ageing mis-fits and babies.
I floated this theory on air this past weekend and had a hard time selling it. ‘He’s not ready’ I was told. Really? Let me ask this – if Klopp quit at the end of the season who would Liverpool want to appoint? Exactly. Alonso. Of course he’s ready.”
The 42-year-old is doing a fantastic job in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso has taken a relegation-threatened Leverkusen side to the top of the Bundesliga. Moreover, the German side is unbeaten this season.
However, the young manager would never take up a job in a crisis-ridden Manchester United in his right mind.
If the opportunity to join the PL comes to him, he would rather choose his former club than anyone else.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
