Liverpool are quietly establishing themselves as a strong contender for the Premier League title this season.
Despite being in fourth place with 23 points after ten games, just three points behind the current leaders, Tottenham Hotspur, Ian Wright from Optus Sports’ The Kelly & Wrighty Show believes that Jurgen Klopp’s troops could pose a significant challenge to their title rivals.
Wright points out that the Anfield outfit have the experience of chasing Manchester City in a season, and with their midfield now performing well, they possess one of the best midfielders in the league.
Despite the attention on teams like Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City, Liverpool are somewhat flying under the radar, and this could work to their advantage.
Ian Wright thinks Liverpool can not be written off for the Premier League title this season
Wright believes that if the Reds stay in contention, they will become a significant obstacle for other teams in the title race.
“I think that with the amount of noise around Tottenham and Arsenal and obviously City doing their stuff, it’s almost as if people are leaving Liverpool. And they should be quite happy with that, because they’ve got everything in every department to continue to challenge under the radar.
I believe if they do get into a situation where they’re in and around it, then Liverpool are definitely a massive problem for everybody.”
Said Ian Wright.
Liverpool’s current situation aligns with Wright’s assessment. While other teams like Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City are in the spotlight, Liverpool are quietly going about their business.
Last season, the Merseysiders had a challenging year, and many had written them off as contenders for the title.
However, with 10 games played this season, there are signs that Jurgen Klopp may have revitalized the team.
It is still not widely expected that they will maintain their challenge, but as Wright rightly mentions, Klopp is the only manager to have sustained a title race against Manchester City.
While the composition of Liverpool’s squad has changed since their last title win, key players like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and others remain part of the team.
These are players with a winning mentality and a strong desire to rectify the disappointments of the previous season.
As other teams like Arsenal, Spurs, and Aston Villa deal with the pressure of the spotlight, Liverpool appears comfortable operating quietly in the background, making them a potential dark horse in the title race.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
