Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is expected to join Liverpool or Manchester United over the summer. The Chelsea youth academy graduate’s contract is expiring next season.
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Mount will have to soon “decide” whether to make the Anfield move.
The Chelsea academy graduate has made 195 appearances for the London side throughout his senior career. His contract will be expiring at the end of the next season. This window is the final chance for him and the club to secure a big money move elsewhere.
CBS Reporter Ben Jacobs while writing in his column for CaughtOffside, claimed that the young midfielder is “advancing” in negotiations to join Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United.
This is true as he has agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils. But as the deal looks like almost done, Jurgen Klopp is still keeping an eye on him as a potential option.
Possibility for Liverpool to sign Mason Mount?
Florian Plettenberg while talking on Twitter, revealed that Mount is set to choose between Liverpool and Manchester United. His departure from his boyhood club is almost inevitable this transfer window. He stated,
“News #Mount: Been told #MUFC is pushing a lot!
Ten Hag and the bosses share the same opinion about him: They definitely want him! Within the club all are convinced of him.
Understand he will decide between Man Utd or Liverpool.
Price valuation at this stage: €45-50m [£38m-43m] with bonuses included.”
Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Mount and the fact that his contract is running out next year makes things even better. It means he will be available for a lesser price this season. So the Reds should definitely consider bidding for the youngster who is available for a bargain.
The 24-year-old missed 12 high-stake games last season. Still, he has managed to register 9 goal contributions (six assists and three goals) across all competitions. This has shown that he can impact a game whenever he is on the pitch (stats via Transfermarkt).
The 2020-21 Champions League winner knows the challenges and pressure of playing at the highest level. So he has all the qualities that a manager like Klopp would like in his team.
Liverpool have already secured the Mac Allister deal and are in the advanced stages of talks with Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram. If the Merseysiders are able to secure Mason Mount also then the midfield would have the perfect depth and versatility to venture into the next season.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
