Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been a key player for Liverpool in the Premier League in the first half of the season, might be in need of some rest to rejuvenate his performance.
Despite a strong start at Anfield, his recent displays have raised concerns about possible fatigue, prompting suggestions for a brief break.
Szoboszlai has logged significant playing time, with only Mohamed Salah surpassing his minutes on the field this season.
Having played in 18 out of 19 matches, accumulating 1,314 minutes, these figures are notably high for a newcomer to the Premier League.
The transition from German football, where he played with Red Bull Leipzig, has revealed a marked difference in intensity, a point the Austrian midfielder has previously acknowledged.
Szoboszlai on Premier League Football
In a recent statement, Szoboszlai commented on the demanding nature of the Premier League:
“The intensity is crazy. You have to run a lot and not only a lot but fast. You have to defend too because you know that every time the opposition has a chance in this league, the quality is so high that they can score.”
Said Szoboszlai earlier this month.
Fortunately for Liverpool, they have a depth of midfield options to provide Szoboszlai with a well-deserved break.
Players like Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, and Wataru Endo can step in, each offering a unique skill set.
There has been a growing call from fans for more game time for Endo, who has impressed in brief appearances since joining Liverpool in the summer.
This presents an opportune moment for the Japanese international to secure more minutes in the team.
It is anticipated that Szoboszlai might be rested for Liverpool’s Europa League clash against LASK Linz on Thursday, having not started any of their previous four European matches.
A similar break from the Premier League starting XI could be advisable, especially with upcoming matches against Fulham and Sheffield United—relatively less challenging fixtures.
The aim is to have Szoboszlai in peak form for crucial encounters against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle in the near future.
