Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised the Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas for his recent performances in the pre-match press conference before the LASK match.
The Reds are currently going through a tricky situation at this point with several key players remaining injured. The long-term injured players have been Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic.
And it seems like Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are also on their way to joining them on the injury list after their unfortunate injury in the clash with Manchester City the previous weekend. But so far the most shocking injury news has been of Andy Robertson.
The Scottish skipper dislocated his shoulder in October against Spain while he clashed with Unai Simon. And his date of return is still pretty unclear.
But since his injury, Kostas Tsimikas has been deputized with the responsibility of taking care of the left-back position. And his performances have been nothing short of impressive.
Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas
When Klopp was asked about Tsimikas’ recent displays in his pre-LASK press conference, the German replied,
“Kosti needed rhythm as well. It’s not that he was now flying since he came into the team but he knows that himself.
It’s very important for a player who was waiting that long for a run of games. [But] just because you have the run of games now, it will work out? No, it’s not like this.
But he improved, the last two games were really good.Brentford, you could see how big the change was after he set up the goal.
He was then involved in Diogo’s goal as well, was much more stable. We all know if he’s stable he can produce some beautiful things.
Especially crosses, set-pieces, these kinds of things and we need that. So, yeah, really, really happy.”
The Greek defender has always been the alternative to Robertson whenever the latter has not been available. And now with the Scotland international being out, it has brought in opportunities for Tsimikas.
In the match against Brentford, he played the whole 90 minutes providing 2 crucial assists, with an 85.4% pass completion rate, and out in 2 successful tackles.
The 27-year-old had a decent game against the Sky Blues where he completed 84.6% of passes successfully, played one key pass, and put in 1 tackle (stats via WhoScored).
The defender has been constantly putting up good performances. Hopefully, he continues to produce the same quality of play until Robertson returns to action.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
