The Anfield giants are suffering a few setbacks as several players got hit by injuries with Alisson and Diogo Jota recently joining the injury list.

But thankfully Jurgen Klopp will not have to sweat about the frontline despite the unavailability of Jota. The German coach will still have Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Ben Doak, and Cody Gakpo at his disposal.

And the player who has impressed this season, even though he did not get enough playtime or play in his preferred position, has been Cody Gakpo. Klopp has been using him in the midfield this season as no. 10 to provide an extra attacking option.

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo on reaching his peak

While speaking to the press about his season so far, as quoted by journalist Ian Doyle, the Dutch international stated,

“Obviously I’ve been in a few different positions, striker, midfield and left wing. I think I can do better.

You want to improve every day and become a better player all the time. Working hard to become a better player.”

Despite him not playing at his natural left-winger or striker position in most of the matches, Gakpo has already scored 4 goals and assisted once in 15 appearances across all competitions (stats via Transfermarkt). But as an attacker, his frustration is quite clear from not being even more effective.

The 24-year-old joined LFC this January for £43M from PSV Eindhoven with a lot of promise. And he has also fitted into Klopp’s system pretty well right from the start.

However, the German coach’s habit of rotating the squad to give opportunity to everyone has not given much chance to the Dutchman. There is no doubt that he is a brilliant forward.

And the best out of him only comes out when Gakpo gets ample amount of opportunity to live up to his expectations.
