Liverpool reportedly proposed to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer, but the player rejected the deal.
The Brazil international has been linked to a move to Anfield for quite some time.
The Reds were interested in signing the player in the earlier transfer window.
However, the 26-year-old didn’t seem too interested in the move and went on to sign a contract extension with the Magpies.
As per Football Transfers, Liverpool attempted to sign Guimaraes this summer from Newcastle, though the Magpies shot down the proposal.
But now, the Reds must postpone any plans to land the Brazilian into Anfield. The midfielder has signed a contract extension with the Toon Army to keep him till 2028.
Liverpool might not be able to sign Bruno Guimaraes anytime soon
Liverpool had an excellent opportunity to sign the former Lyon man last season when Newcastle hadn’t finalized a deal with him yet.
However, now that the deal is done. the Reds might have to wait a bit longer to sign Bruno.
Moreover, Newcastle demanded a massive sum of £100m for the Brazilian. This is a crazy amount of money, and the Anfield side would not pay for the 26-year-old.
Moreover, the Reds have other targets who are not as expensive as Bruno, and one of the examples is Szoboszlai. The £60m man arrived from Leipzig and is way cheaper and younger than Bruno.
Moreover, the 24-year-old World Cup Winner, Mac Allister, cost Klopp just £35m from Brighton. With the quality that he possesses, he is a bargain, to say the least, for Liverpool.
Instead of signing a single player for £100m, the Reds completed their whole midfield rebuild in the summer.
This includes the transfer fee they got for all their departing players. The Merseysiders signed Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, and Endo this summer.
Although Bruno would have been a great addition, spending a sum of £100m on a single player doesn’t seem worth it.
