Liverpool no. 10 Alexis Mac Allister will reportedly miss the clash with Manchester United on Sunday due to the cut on his knee.

The Anfield giants are currently surfing through a good run of games. With the dramatic 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace, the club rose to the 1st position. They also extended their unbeaten run to 6 games.

Chelsea could sell ex-Liverpool ‘target’ as signings ‘instruct agents to seek moves’: Report

The whole team has been working in harmony to produce the victories. Especially the midfield revamp this summer has worked wonders for the Merseysiders who finished 5th last season.

The midfield alone this season has had a total of 21 goal contributions with 9 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

This is very special considering this is the first time in a long while the midfield has performed this good (stats via Transfermarkt).

Manager Jurgen Klopp’s tactics have been working pretty well this season thanks to the players. But an injury update might cause some worry for the German.

Alexis Mac Allister to miss Manchester United clash

The Argentine World Cup winner suffered a cut on his knee in the 2-0 victory against Sheffield United. But Mac Allister continued to play for almost an hour after receiving on-field treatment.

But the Reds boss confirmed that the no. 10’s situation could be worse. Speaking before the match against Crystal Palace, Klopp stated,

“Macca doesn’t look good, so we have to see day by day. They were pretty hopeful after the game that it was not serious.

We have to wait there how he shows up here today. I don’t expect him to be ready for tomorrow, I don’t know about Thursday or Sunday after that, so it’s pretty much stop and go. We have to see.”

Manchester United’s injury woes grow ahead of Liverpool showdown

However, according to a new report from Argentine media outlet TyC Sports, the midfielder’s situation is worse than assessed. Although there is no ligament damage, the injury is a ‘strong blow’ as it needed two stitches.

To heal from this injury, the 24-year-old might need ‘approximately 15 days of recovery’. This means the midfielder will miss the big clash against Manchester United this Sunday.

Mac Allister will also miss the UEL match on Thursday against Union Saint-Gilloise and the League Cup match against West Ham United next Wednesday.

Liverpool youngster’s stay on the bench might be over: Neil Jones

The Argentine has been a key player for Klopp playing in the deep-lying no. 6 role. But now with his injury, the LFC boss will have to deputise someone who can do the job similar to Mac Allister.

The positive update though is that Thiago Alcantara is expected to return in action by January of 2024 who has executed this role quite well in the past.
