Liverpool are in ‘close contact’ with the Feyenoord holding midfielder, Mats Wieffer who has apparently already snubbed a chance to join AC Milan and Lazio.
The Reds have already signed three midfielders this season – Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Endo. But there is a feeling that these 3 signings wouldn’t be enough for the long season ahead.
No doubt that these players are brilliant and would fit into the system well. However, with the numbers concerned, the Reds don’t have the depth that is required going into the long season.
Moreover, there are other transfer targets that suggest that Liverpool might be splashing the cash before the window shuts.
With Ryan Gravenberch and Andre Trindade heavily linked, there is another new name on the list.
New reports have emerged that Liverpool are in ‘close contact’ with Mats Wieffer and his representatives in the last few hours.
Liverpool targeting a new midfielder – Mats Wieffer
According to new reports from FootballTransfers, a completely new name in the form of Mats Wieffer has emerged as a new candidate. He is tipped to be the man to complete Liverpool’s midfield rebuild.
The 23-year-old Dutch international is a defensive midfielder and plays for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
Days after Dean Jones claimed that Wataru Endo was the last signing for the Reds this season, reports have shown the Reds’ interest in the 23-year-old.
As per the reports, Liverpool are in ‘close contact’ with Wieffer and his camp. In further reports, the player has rejected the opportunity to join AC Milan and Lazio.
“It is nice to hear that such clubs are interested. But I have the feeling that I want to stay at Feyenoord for one more year anyway. That’s the best for myself. We’ll see what happens.”
Wieffer told RTV Rijnmond
However, the report doesn’t show the progress that the Reds have made in terms of the potential signing. But it has stressed that talks between the player and the club are underway.
Meanwhile, there is no talk about the transfer fee but has a valuation of around €15m.
