£70M midfielder’s move to Liverpool could make Szoboszlai even better – Opinion
The addition of Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure to the Liverpool squad will make Dominik Szoboszlai even better.
The Reds faced a major setback as Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia chose to move to Chelsea. Both the midfielders were on the wishlist of the club as many senior players left Anfield this summer.
Thus, the Merseysiders moved quickly and signed Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart for around £15M. He made his debut late in the second half against Bournemouth on Sunday.
However, the 30-year-old might not be the ultimate summer signing of the Anfield giants. Liverpool have been linked with Cheick Doucoure for the past few weeks.
According to a new report via Football Insider, LFC are really interested to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder following the transfer of Endo.
The Malian international moved to Palace last summer for £21M. And since joining, he established himself as an indispensable member of the Eagles’ squad. The club’s Chairman Steve Parish said upon his arrival,
“We are extremely confident that Cheick will adapt seamlessly to the rigours of the Premier League and that he will contribute positively to the squad.
How can Cheick Doucoure enhance Liverpool and Szoboszlai?
The 23-year-old made 34 appearances in PL and averages 2.3 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game. His ability to protect the middle of the pitch and willingness to get back to help the defense makes him special (stats via Whoscored).
While speaking about the midfielder, Palace manager Roy Hodgson said,
“He has been very influential. He’s one of those players that plays in a position which is a bit of a fulcrum of the attacking midfield play and defending midfield play.
His positional sense, his ability to read the game, his technical ability, and the fact that he gets around the field so well [makes him influential].”
His defensive abilities could help Dominik Szoboszlai flourish even more which would eventually enhance Liverpool.
The Hungarian international, in only two games, has proved how influential he can be with his positional awareness, passing, and explosiveness.
But at the moment, Klopp is using him and Mac Allister as pivots which puts defensively more pressure on them. So a player like Doucoure can help the midfield duo to unleash their true potential offensively.
