The red card that Alexis Mac Allister received on Saturday in Liverpool vs Bournemouth has been overturned by the FA after the Reds’ appeal.
The Argentine was given a straight red for his challenge on Ryan Christie just before the hour mark during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield.
Meanwhile, the Reds were leading the tie, 2-1 at the time of his dismissal.
The World Cup winner was set to be suspended for Liverpool’s next three matches. He would have had to miss games against Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Wolves.
But now the Merseysiders have appealed against the ban and it has been approved by the FA.
Mac Allister will feature in the next Liverpool games
Meanwhile, the Argentine would now be available for the next games as the appeal has been approved. This means he would be able to start in a fiery affair against Newcastle on Sunday.
However, when the red card incident occurred, it sparked a series of disapproval from fans and pundits alike. Klopp as well wasn’t a fan of the decision and understandably so.
Speaking after the game, Klopp said that the red card was harsh and he had seen worse challenges get away with a red. Moreover, he said that ‘everything was lacking for a red card’ in the tackle.
“We have to talk about it and everyone agrees. I 100 per cent understand how it looks for the ref in that moment but when you see it back it’s the inside of the foot with no power in it.
We’ve seen harsher challenges that weren’t red cards that should’ve been. I think we should talk about it. If he said it was a yellow, the VAR wouldn’t have upgraded to a red card.
Everything is lacking for a red card, the intensity. Yes, there was contact but there must be a different intention when it’s a red card. We will talk to the people about it.”
