Journalist Julien Laurens has revealed how strongly PSG star Kylian Mbappe feels about Liverpool and is hopeful for a potential transfer.
The Anfield Giants are undoubtedly one of the best clubs in world football. They have successfully established themselves as one of the top by winning 19 EPL titles, 8 FA Cups, 6 European Championship titles, 1 FIFA Club World Cup and many others.
Liverpool and their legacy
Although all the silverware is one of the parameters for measuring a club’s success, those are not the ultimate ones. The other parameters that factor in judging a club’s success and glory are the club’s origin, philosophy, fan culture, etc.
The Reds, as a club, pass with flying colours in all those aspects. Anfield as a stadium is still considered one of the Meccas of football. Many players dream about stepping foot on the Merseyside pitch.
Even today, the club has a rich culture and strong fanbase, which help them claim the top place in football. The mighty LFC team stands 1st in the PL going into the winter transfer window.
Concerns for winter transfer window
Before jumping into the second half of the season, Liverpool needs to work on their team. Many new signings are needed to bolster the team’s shape to challenge for the title.
The prominent area of focus should be the defence, as injury concerns are growing rapidly. The defensive-midfielder position is also a position that needs to be worked upon.
But the position that could become problematic shortly is right-wing. Star forward Mohamed Salah is most likely to leave the club in summer 2024 as interest from Saudi Arabia continues to grow.
Although the rumours of the Reds and Kylian Mbappe have surfaced quite often, the chances of the English giants signing him are slim.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe likes Liverpool
The French attacker’s contract with the Ligue 1 side ends this summer, and he will seek a move out. Speaking to BBC 5 Live Sport about the future of the French star, journalist Julien Laurens said,
“I really believe him when he says he hasn’t decided yet if he wants to stay a little bit longer or go somewhere else as a free agent in the summer. Whether that’s Real Madrid, very likely, Liverpool, less likely. But that’s another team that he really, really likes.
Even if he leaves as a free agent, so with no transfer fee for PSG to receive, the agreement that he has with the club protects PSG and preserves the interest of the club. The bonus that PSG were supposed to pay him at the end of this season whether he was leaving or not will not be paid. He’s going to waive that off. We’re talking around 70 or 80 million Euros.
You can be very optimistic as a PSG fan and say he hasn’t decided yet, there’s still time for PSG to convince him to stay a little longer. Or the fact that he’s reminding everyone – and I even think this is the first time either he or the club is talking publicly about this agreement that they had last summer – that it says ‘listen, I’m going to leave as a free agent but it’s not a problem because PSG will have that money that they’re not going to pay me with’, to use as a transfer fee if you want.”
What lies ahead
Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid looks like it has been written in stars. However, his mother liking and supporting Liverpool could be a factor in this transfer saga.
But all the emotions aside, there is almost zero chance of the Merseysiders signing the 25-year-old. His price tag is enormous and signing him would go completely against the club’s philosophy. But it does not hurt to dream of it!
