Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will have to decide whether to stay at Liverpool or move to Al-Ettifaq within the next 48 hours.
As per earlier reports, Jordan Henderson was a target for the Saudi club. Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard joined Al-Ettifaq as manager earlier this month.
And new report from The Daily Mail suggests that the English midfielder might consider joining the Saudi side.
Earlier his family was reluctant about relocating to the Middle-East. But now just like the former Liverpool skipper, Henderson after being hesitant now is seriously considering the Al-Ettifaq offer.
Many PL stars have already joined the Saudi Pro League this summer and they want more stars to join the league.
Many other big names in the football world have also made a move to the recently famous league. The list includes Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and others
Al-Ettifaq to sign Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson?
The Damman-based club reportedly have offered the England international a two-year contract with an option to extend it by one year based on performance. This deal is very attractive for the 33-year-old Anfield skipper.
Henderson now at Liverpool earns £200K per week as salary. But the Saudi club would offer him a 50 percent pay hike in weekly wages which is more than tempting for the midfielder.
It still remains a mystery if Gerrard has or will play any role in Henderson’s change of mind. After being appointed as the manager, the England legend gave his first interview last weekend. He expressed,
‘When I went over to Saudi, I got a real family feel. They made me feel extremely welcome. There are three things that I always consider: it needs to be right for my family first and foremost, we have to be excited and motivated by the challenge.
I think the league will continue to grow and evolve. With fantastic support from the government and ministers, and all the clubs throughout the Saudi Pro League and all the supporters and players, we all have an ambition to make it one of the best leagues in the world.’
Henderson is expected to make a decision by Friday. Depending upon his decision, Al-Ettifaq will submit the official bid for the transfer to the Merseysiders.
The 33-year-old still has two years left in his contract and even if a deal is to happen, the Reds might ask for serious money.
Signing the English midfielder would be a powerful move for the Saudi League and help them reach a greater audience.
Liverpool now waits until Henderson makes a decision. While the Reds will soon make the official move for Romeo Lavia.
