Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is reportedly in the advanced stages of talks to join Al-Ettifaq this summer. A new report from French media claims he will move to Saudi League.
The Reds are currently going through a midfield overhaul. The club has already seen the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined fee of almost £100M.
Players like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita have left the club as a part of the dressing room cleaning. And club-captain Jordan Henderson might be the next player to leave the club.
The England international might soon reunite with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard. The former Liverpool skipper flipped over the rumours of him joining Al-Ettifaq as a coach. But his appointment as manager was confirmed by an official club statement by Al-Ettifaq.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson to move to Al-Ettifaq?
As per a new report via L’Equipe, Henderson is in very advanced talks to have a shocking transfer to the Saudi club. Al-Ettifaq are hoping that Gerrard could possibly lure the Liverpool star into joining them.
The 33-year-old appeared in 35 PL matches while starting in 23 of them. The Merseysiders manager Jurgen Klopp back in February labeled him as a ‘very, very, very important player’. While talking about the possibilities of his transfer, Klopp said,
“I don’t understand why we are talking about one player, I mean it. Everybody knows how much I respect him. I don’t like saying this but it’s true, you are not able to deal with these kinds of things.
One player becomes the subject, ‘Henderson is this, Henderson is that’, Hendo is not our problem. Never was and never will be. When he is fit and in good shape he played 98 per cent of the games we had.
He played all these games because he’s a very, very, very important player for us. There’s nothing…I understand that you have to think about subjects, but I cannot answer this question.
Yes he’s important and how much did we miss him, a lot.”
Liverpool will be going into the new season expecting to challenge for the trophies. And for that reason, the Reds might drop some old players and introduce new players.
It is already evident with Thiago talks and now the club-captain might also have to leave the club. Although it is just a rumour for now.
And we hope it remains a rumour because Hendo is a leader and his presence in the dressing room is like a ray of bright sunshine.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
