Thierry Henry, the football legend, has drawn a comparison between the play style of Mohamed Salah and that of former Chelsea star Eden Hazard.
Both players have left a significant mark in the Premier League, with impressive career statistics to support their claims as all-time greats in the league.
Eden Hazard, during his seven-year stint at Chelsea, made 352 appearances, scoring 110 goals and providing 92 assists.
Salah, on the other hand, initially joined Chelsea from Basel but was overshadowed by Hazard and other preferred attackers.
After a spell in Italy, Salah returned to the Premier League with Liverpool, where he has made 312 appearances, scored 190 goals, and assisted 83 times.
Thierry Henry on Mo Salah and Eden Hazard
In an interview with B/R Football as part of the launch of the EA Sports FC 24 video game, Henry was asked about Salah’s dribbling skills, which were rated 88 on a scale of one to 99 by the game developers.
Henry expressed disbelief at this rating, suggesting that Salah’s dribbling abilities were underrated. He praised Salah’s direct style of play and drew a parallel with Hazard’s approach to dribbling.
The former Arsenal striker said:
“Only? I like people that go to the goal. A lot of people do stuff that I call nonsense,”
The France Under-21 coach continued…
“Are you going to the goal or not? When Salah takes the ball, he goes!
I always remember one guy: Eden Hazard. That’s what I call dribbling.
He didn’t showboat, he was going to goal. Eden, you could kick him, you could do whatever, he used to spin on people and go to goal.
That’s for me what a dribbler is. I think that’s a bit low for Mo Salah, but primetime, I would’ve been there too.”
Despite the high praise for Salah, Henry felt that his dribbling rating in the game was a bit low. He also mentioned that in his prime, he would have been similarly inclined to attack the goal aggressively.
Currently, Eden Hazard is without a club after leaving Real Madrid, ending a challenging four-year spell in Spain due to injuries.
There were even rumors linking Hazard to a surprise free transfer to Union Saint-Gilloise, who were set to face Liverpool in the Europa League.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
