Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool are currently scouting Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie for a potential winter transfer.
After a successful summer transfer window with a midfield rehaul, the Reds are now looking for defensive reinforcements this winter.
Although they have been exceptionally good with attack and midfield performances, the defense has been the weakest link.
Despite the heroics of Alisson Becker between the sticks, the Merseysiders are conceding goals in almost every match.
Out of the 11 matches they’ve played so far, LFC conceded first in 9 of them. And a solid defensive signing is quite needed now.
This summer the Anfield giants tried signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie but failed. However, the latest developments are pretty hopeful for the club and the fans.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool are scouting Piero Hincapie
As the journalist was speaking to CaughtOffside about LFC’s hunt for the next defender, he said,
“Some Liverpool fans have been asking me about the club’s plans in central defence. As there was interest in signing someone in that position during the summer.
Though in the end there was so much to do in midfield, they focused on that area as a priority and brought in four new players. So, what now?
Piero Hincapie is someone who keeps being linked with Liverpool, there’s always this rumour around but at the moment it’s nothing serious or concrete.
Liverpool have been scouting many centre backs and also Hincapie is among them, but really nothing else. No negotiations, no direct talks at this stage.”
The 21-year-old defender made 30 appearances for the German club in the Bundesliga in the 2022-23 season.
During this time, he averaged 1.7 tackles and 1 tackle per game. The Ecuadorian international could potentially be a good companion to Van Dijk in defense and to Konate in the future.
If Liverpool manages to get this deal done, they will be securing a real talent who would grow even better with time and the facilities at the club.
