Liverpool summer target, English midfielder Kalvin Phillips might be leaving Manchester City in the coming winter transfer window.
The Reds have been one of the successful clubs to complete their business in the summer transfer window.
Although they lost many senior players and missed out on several targets, they have accomplished their objective of midfield rebuild.
And all of their signings have fit in the team quite well and are playing pretty well.
However, the defensive-midfield position is still worrying for manager Jurgen Klopp despite the addition of Wataru Endo.
Without taking anything away from him, Endo’s signing was definitely to fill out the position and to provide an option for Klopp.
Still, the Merseyside club needs to make a proper No. 6 signing who can take the responsibility that Fabinho used to have.
And it looks like that opportunity will come to the club very soon.
Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips could leave Manchester City
Since joining the Blues back in the summer of 2022, the former Leeds skipper has not managed to break into Pep Guardiola’s team.
The Spanish boss has immense belief in his countryman Rodri, which led to Phillips not getting any chance to prove himself making only 26 appearances.
He was told that he could leave the Etihad this summer, but the England international thought it was too soon to leave.
Even when Rodri was on suspension against Arsenal this weekend, the City manager chose Bernardo Silva to start at the no. 6 position ahead of Phillips.
And according to a new report via English media outlet The i, the 27-year-old could leave the Manchester side in January to accumulate more playing time.
His place in Gareth Southgate’s England national team is looking more vulnerable due to lack of appearances in club football.
And this is where Liverpool comes in to swoop the deal to fulfill their need of a firm defensive-midfield signing.
Kalvin Phillips has proved his caliber while playing for Leeds United. If the Anfield giants secure this deal, then this will upgrade the current midfield to another level.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
