Former England international and Liverpool legend John Aldridge has voiced his opinion about the recent poor decisions against the Merseysiders in the PL.
The Reds are currently 4th in the PL points table with 17 points, 3 points off of the 1st place after gameweek 8. But all of this so easily could have been different if things went on the club’s side.
So far in this season, the club has shown great potential and aptitude to claim their position among the best clubs.
But the bad decisions by the officials have somewhat restricted the Anfield giants’ confidence in moving forward.
The wrongful send-off of Alexis Mac Allister against Bournemouth, Virgil Van Dijk’s red card against Newcastle, and the horror show in the Tottenham game are evidence of such instances.
Opinion of John Aldridge on wrong decisions against Liverpool
Anthony Taylor did a decent job this Sunday as he did not make any major mistakes in operating the game.
The Merseysiders got their deserving penalty as Dominik Szoboszlai was pulled down inside the Seagulls box.
However, Aldridge still has found out a tiny detail from the incident. While writing on Liverpool Echo, the former Red expressed,
“Then we come to the circumstances around Liverpool’s penalty and the fact Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross was not carded for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
This incident reminded me of one I was involved in as a Tranmere Rovers player during a League Cup semi-final second leg against Aston Villa.
I was brought down by goalkeeper Mark Bosnich inside the penalty area and he should have been sent off, according to the laws of the game.
I scored the penalty to make it 1-1 in the game, but we ended up losing on penalties with Bosnich later saving three spot-kicks.”
He then added,
“I personally had no gripe with that because I scored the penalty and I never like to see people sent off, but rules are rules
So how Gross has not even got a yellow for bringing down Dominik Szoboszlai is beyond me.
Craig Pawson on VAR has to tell the referee to go and have a look, it is as easy as that.”
There is no denying that Albion performed extraordinarily well and looked pretty solid.
However, the Anfield side was also lacking some conviction, they had many chances that could have put them in the driver’s seat.
But the refereeing mistakes are becoming more and more costly for LFC.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
