Trent Alexander-Arnold recently shared his thoughts on the toughest opponent he’s faced in his football career, highlighting an unexpected name.
Despite Liverpool‘s promising start to the Premier League season, they were dealt a blow by Tottenham, with a late Joel Matip own-goal sealing their 2-1 defeat.
To make matters worse, Liverpool had a goal disallowed due to a VAR miscommunication.
In an interview with Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Alexander-Arnold discussed various topics, including his favorite away ground and a memorable moment from his Liverpool career.
He was also asked about the most challenging player he had faced, who, despite his talent, didn’t reach the pinnacle of the sport.
After a thoughtful pause, the 25-year-old singled out Brandon Barker, who once played for Manchester City.
Alexander-Arnold recounted a match when he was 18, playing for the Under-21s at Anfield, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat, with Barker scoring twice and providing an assist.
He described Barker’s speed, sharpness, and effectiveness as unmatched and admitted that he had never encountered such a formidable opponent before.
Brandon Barker’s career took a different path, as he didn’t break into Manchester City’s first team.
Instead, he went on loan spells to Rotherham, NAC Breda in the Netherlands, Hibernian, and Preston North End.
Eventually, he secured a permanent deal with Rangers in 2019. Barker had a successful loan stint with Oxford United before joining Reading as a free agent, but his playing time was limited, prompting him to take up a new challenge in Cyprus with Omonia.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
