Liverpool look to swoop in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Manu Kone who has had a fine season with the German club.
The Reds are looking at their long list of potential summer transfers and the Frenchman seems to be a viable option.
Ever since failing to secure their long-term Bundesliga target, Bellingham, the Reds have looked for an alternative in the same league.
With Mac Allister deal imminent, Klopp wants a few more players and understandably so. With a poor season behind them, the Reds want to start strong the next season. And the right transfer window seems to be the key.
After only qualifying for the Europa League, the Merseyside club seems to turn things around and get back to their usual best.
However, it hasn’t been an eventful summer so far for Liverpool as most of their targets are being wooed by rival clubs. The likes of Mount, Ugarte have shown interest in joining other clubs. Meanwhile, the long-term target, Gravenberch is apparently not for sale.
Would the same happen in the case of Kone is the question looming over many Liverpool fans.
Could we see Kone at Liverpool the next season?
According to transfer specialist Romano, Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old. He has had impressive performances in the Bundesliga this term.
“Manu Koné, one of the midfielders on Liverpool’s list. He’s highly rated as LFC are already informed on conditions of the deal.
Parties feel there’s a chance for Koné to leave this summer, as BILD called — he’s a name to consider for Liverpool plans.”
Moreover, previous reports have claimed that the defensive-minded midfielder could cost around £26m this summer. This could, however, prove to be a bargain for the Reds if he can live up to his potential at Anfield.
As per BILD, the Frenchman is being monitored by Man Utd and PSG as well. However, he could be lured in by Klopp with game-time in mind which is scarce at the other two clubs.
The young midfielder excels at dribbling, passing, and tackling. Hence, he could be the ideal man to replace Keita as a ball-carrying midfield in Klopp’s squad.
Just this term, he amassed a healthy 1.9 dribbles per game and an impressive 2.5 tackles per match. Certainly, these numbers would have ranked him joint-top in the entire Liverpool squad for those metrics.
Kone is certainly highly-rated, doesn’t have too high a price tag, and has plenty of room to grow. Thus, he could be an excellent first signing by Jorg Schmadtke this summer.
