Chelsea have made a £51 million offer to sign Liverpool target man, Manuel Ugarte in the summer transfer window, as per Portuguese outlet Record.
This transfer saga has taken yet another twist with Chelsea now in the front seat. Liverpool were chasing the midfielder for more than 2 weeks and had even contacted the player’s agent. Moreover, less than 2 days ago, it was reported that PSG are in increased talks to activate the release clause of the Uruguayan.
However, it is now being reported that the Liverpool target is approached by Chelsea and are ready to make an offer to Sporting.
It was reported that the Blues would be busy in the transfer market yet again after a horrendous season, Besides, with Pochettino taking over the managerial duties imminently, he would be looking at a squad overhaul.
Chelsea spent over €600m last summer and brought in at least 16 players. However, they have been miserable this season despite the overflowing talent available in their ranks.
Now, however, they are set to spend some more and bring in more players for the next season. With recent reports suggesting that the Blues are in pole position to sign Ugarte.
Chelsea ready to bid for Liverpool target, Manuel Ugarte
Klopp seems to be losing yet another midfielder in Ugarte as Chelsea look to make an offer for the player. It earlier seemed as if the French club, PSG would be stealing the deal. But Chelsea have now accelerated their talks with Sporting.
Record states that PSG are ready to match Sporting’s demands and made a £51 million bid to activate Ugarte’s release clause. However, Chelsea have leaped onto the scene and are now ready to fight for the Uruguayan midfielder.
Furthermore, the Blues are ready to match PSG’s offer for Ugarte. The Uruguayan star would personally prefer a move to Stamford Bridge, despite their lack of European football next season.
It added that the 22-year-old feels like the Premier League represents a better challenge for him. Also, it has been his dream to play in England after he was also linked with a move to Liverpool.
However, he would be in for a rough season if he chooses Chelsea. He would not be playing European football- something that he played with Sporting this season in Europa League. Also, the managerial change at Chelsea would not guarantee Ugarte a confirmed starting XI spot, week-in, week-out.
Thus, Liverpool still have a chance to snatch away the deal if the Reds are willing to match Sporting’s demands.
