Liverpool have been in pursuit of the brilliant Inter Milan midfielder, Nicolo Barella who has been attracting a lot of interests from top clubs.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Reds are interested in signing the Italian international from Inter Milan. The report states that he could cost somewhere around £68.4m if he is allowed to leave this summer.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Liverpool have made contact to sign Barella. He took on Twitter to talk about the Reds’ interest in the Italian.
“On Barella, I would also keep an eye on Liverpool because Liverpool have always been following the player. Jurgen Klopp has always been a big fan of Barella, and so let’s see what happens at Liverpool.”
Romano claims the Anfield club is talking to the representatives of several midfielders and are “informed of the situation” of the creative star.
Liverpool still chasing the Italian Stallion-Barella?
The 26-year-old had a brilliant campaign for Inter Milan last term. He scored 9 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions for Inter Milan, as they finished 3rd.
The Italy international has won the European Championships in 2021. Moreover, has won every major domestic prize at the club level in Italy.
However, he was unable to add the Champions League medal to his cabinet. Inter were beaten by Manchester City in the final to a stunning Rodri goal.
Liverpool have already signed a creative central midfielder in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and adding Barella would further improve the quality of the squad.
Being linked to the likes of Thuram, Kone, Kokcu, Veiga, and a few more, the question comes down to finances.
Would the Reds be able to sign Barella if available and still have funds for at least another player?
While there are no doubts about the quality of Barella, it is the availability and chances in the team that might be a concern. At Inter, he is often times the captain of the team and leads the midfield.
He is also a regular starter and rarely is left out of the squad. Meanwhile, at Liverpool, there is no guarantee that he would start week-in, week-out.
Moreover, it would be a huge ask to convince the player to move away from his home country and join the Reds.
