Liverpool have reportedly been scouting the Fulham midfielder, Joao Palhinha this season as they scope out potential midfield targets this summer.
The Reds have reportedly cooled their interest in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham after FSG deemed that the asking price is ‘too expensive’. Klopp too looks to be on par with the owners and is looking at other potential options for the midfield position.
Liverpool have been linked to a number of midfielders since then and look to add a new one to their list. They now turn their heads towards the Fulham midfielder, Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese has been one of the best midfielders, defensively. He has the most tackles this season in the league with 105, followed by Adams and Caicedo.
The former Sporting Club player has been a key player for Marco Silva who are currently 10th in the league.
Liverpool eager to sign Joao Palhinha?
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have had their eye on Fulham’s Palhinha throughout the campaign and have sent scouts to watch him on several occasions.
Since returning to the top flight last season, Fulham have had some success in the Premier League. The Cottagers sit in 10th and are just 5 points off Liverpool who sit 8th in the league.
They have also recruited the Sporting Club man in a deal worth £17.6m. Also, the Portuguese has quickly adapted to the English league and his life in England.
Moreover, he has earned a lot of plaudits for his performances under Marco Silva. Additionally, the 27-year-old is under contract at Craven Cottage until 2027.
However, Palhinha has attracted interest from top clubs already and Liverpool are said to be one of them. Moreover, Man Utd are one of the clubs that would rival Liverpool for the midfielder.
Despite the interest from other clubs, Silva said that the player ‘is happy at the club’.
“He (Palhinha) is happy here. It is the same with players and managers. It is impossible to control what people write.
Whether it is managers or players are linked with clubs, or if there is interest. To be honest, it is something that we don’t lose time thinking about these situations. With Joao it is the same.”
With Liverpool losing midfielders like Keita, Chamberlain, and Arthur, next season, Klopp needs to sign players who would adapt to the squad and not take time to settle in.
