According to Football Insider, Liverpool have turned their focus to Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp is a great admirer of the Argentine’s versatility and wants to bring him to Anfield.
Liverpool have decided against pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham due to financial constraints and has now targeted alternative options.
Although Klopp still admires Bellingham, Liverpool needs to rebuild their midfield, and the focus is on acquiring at least two new players in the middle of the park.
Jurgen Klopp on the Brighton duo
Klopp praised Mac Allister and midfield partner Moises Caicedo –
“It’s massively important how you defend the first line against Brighton, they are that good with Caicedo and Mac Allister.”
Brighton may be willing to sell Mac Allister for around £60m, and Liverpool are believed to be confident of securing his services this summer.
“Clubs are starting to call us for Alexis but there are no concrete talks now,”
Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, said.
“We’ll decide together with Brighton, they deserve respect. We will pick the best project, based on the coach too – it’s not about money.”
The 24-year-old’s contract with the Seagulls will expire in 2025, and he has made a total of 102 appearances across all competitions since joining in 2019.
Mac Allister has had an impressive season, assisting two and scoring eight goals in 26 Premier League outings and helping Brighton sit seventh in the table.
The World Cup winner is described as “one of their top targets” after Liverpool backed out of making a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
The Seagulls are hopeful that a “bidding war” could take place for this player as well, upping the price in the process, with Chelsea, Man City, and United also mentioned as possible suitors.
Mac Allister: Perfect Fit for the Liverpool?
Mac Allister could be exactly what Liverpool needs in the summer transfer window.
He has the all-round game to be a hit at Anfield, possessing a superb work ethic and averaging 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season.
Mac Allister is a highly technical player who displays a good first touch, manipulates the ball, and is a clean ball striker. He can play at different paces, allowing Brighton to retain possession and inject tempo with quick punchy passes.
The fact that Mac Allister now has Premier League experience is an added bonus, meaning he could come in and make the move seamlessly, rather than having to take time to adapt to his new surroundings.
