Liverpool are still in the market after making two brilliant signings and the Reds are now targeting Southampton’s top talent in Romeo Lavia.
As per 90min, Lavia has not yet handed any sort of request to the Saints. Also, he hasn’t even indicated a preference for any club he wants to join, but one thing is clear, he is keen on moving on.
The reports suggest that Lavia and his representatives have told the Saints that he isn’t interested in playing 2nd division football the next season. He was the stand-out player in the South Coast side.
Despite the brilliance of the Belgian, the Saints were relegated down to the 2nd tier of English football. However, there have been elite clubs chasing the 19-year-old. The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal along with Liverpool are in the race to secure his services.
After telling the Saints that he isn’t willing to play in the Championship, Lavia has a month’s time to sort out his future.
Liverpool could be turning their attention towards Lavia now
Lavia is a man in demand and after being relegated his value has lowered and Liverpool are targeting him. Still, the Saints are demanding a fee of £50m for the ex-Man City academy man.
There is keen interest in the player from London clubs, like Chelsea and Arsenal, while Liverpool are also very much active in the transfer market for signing the Southampton midfielder.
The Gunners are busy working on other deals right now but have Lavia firmly in their sights. Moreover, Southampton are looking to fetch £50m for their star youngster.
However, there is said to be a feeling among the big Premier League clubs that that price might be too much.
That’s what this will feel like for Lavia if he is wanting his future sorted before the big kick-off. For Southampton, they’ll be comfortable and confident knowing they can sell at any time.
Moreover, the treble-winning manager, Pep has also described Lavia as ‘incredible.’ City also have a buy-back clause and there have been rumours about the Sky Blues wanting to get their academy player back.
After the departure of Gundogan, City have signed Kovacic but would need the depth as well. Thus, the Premier League champions are also in the mix.
However, Lavia faces a big wait to see if someone will pay up. Southampton aren’t desperate for funds after spending many seasons in the Premier League.
We will have to wait and see whether there would be any discounts or the Merseysiders will eventually pay in full.
