Tottenham’s summer signing, Brennan Johnson, is likely to miss the upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the recent draw with Arsenal, as reported by Football.London.
Johnson had to be substituted during the second half of the North London derby due to hamstring discomfort.
He joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest during the summer for approximately £45 million on a six-year contract.
The severity of Johnson’s injury will be determined through scans this week. If it turns out to be a serious issue, he could be sidelined for up to six weeks.
According to sources, even a minor hamstring strain would still keep him out of action for at least 1-2 weeks.
As a result, it’s expected that Johnson will miss Tottenham’s significant showdown with Liverpool this Saturday and could also be doubtful for the match against Luton Town on October 7th.
Spurs will be eager to have the young player back for their game against Fulham after the international break next month.
Tottenham manager provides injury update on Brennan Johnson and James Maddison
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, confirmed after the Arsenal game that Johnson indeed suffered a hamstring injury and would undergo assessment.
However, he downplayed concerns about another injured player, James Maddison.
“Obviously it seems like he [Johnson] felt something. I think hamstring, so we will assess that.
Madders [Maddison] and Sonny [Son] went into it and they weren’t 100 per cent going into the game, but they got through it – which suggests to me that it is nothing serious.”
Postecoglou said as quoted by Evening Standard.
The Wales international has made six appearances for the London club this season but is yet to score or provide an assist.
He was expected to play a crucial role in Tottenham’s quest for Champions League qualification.
Tottenham have faced a series of injuries in recent weeks, with James Maddison also forced off due to an injury following a challenge from Jorginho in the Arsenal match.
Additionally, Son Heung-min picked up a knock and was substituted for Richarlison.
Maddison has had a promising start to his Tottenham career, forming a potent partnership with Son, contributing with two goals and four assists in seven appearances across all competitions.
Premier League Standings
Tottenham are currently in fourth place in the league standings with 14 points, trailing league leaders Man City by four points and second-placed Liverpool by two points.
The upcoming match against Liverpool is therefore crucial for them.
